Ballad in the studio, before
Miriam shipped it to SOFA Chicago, Oct 30, 2008 Notes on the making of Sonata The fused glass had to be placed in molds in order to keep the shape of the Violin A different mold is used with every firing It took 80 hours of fusing and 10 more for finishing and setting The accoutic case was born from a very big sheet of extra clear float glass, 0.5" thick (Miriam's words) This glass was slumped in a mold engraved in vermiculite It was in the Kiln with Miriam controlling the temperature for 24 hrs The Handle was restored. Gluing it to the glass was very difficult The support is of forged iron made with the help of an expert |
