Big City Guy

The Big City Guy is a companion (pun intentional) piece to a series of work called "Big City Girl". The big city girl pieces are self portraits that have marked the time for me which I have spent living in New York City. Big City Guy is the guy big city girl thinks she is looking for. He is an allegory of the things she thinks about him. He looks at his watch because she is sure "somewhere, someone waits for me". He lives in a big strong brownstone building which represents the strength and shelter she hopes he will bring her. This building has windows to look into his big city life, and inside we see outside as she is sure meeting him will turn her world inside out. His house has one side that has no windows, this is the secret side of him, where only shadows of the interior cityscape can be seen.
