Bruegel The Blue Cloak
Allegory
This piece was inspired by
“The Blue Cloak” a
painting by
Pieter Bruegel
Bruegel, who lived
in 16th century Flanders, creates a World where the proverbial
absurdities of Netherlanders allegories are literally acted out.
I love how this painting presents and preserves the idea of the
times he lived in. In my own style I have also tried to depict the
sayings of the time I am living in while paying a little tribute to
Bruegel’s inspiration by dressing my subjects in Medieval clothing
and by including a few of the sayings from his painting that have
lasted through the ages to our time:
Banging ones head against a brick wall; Don‘t count your chickens
before they are hatched; Roses (pearls) before swine; The blind
leading the blind… |
