Woods in Santiago
(Bosco a Santiago)
Sun over the hill that protects the
town.
Pine, Cypress and Eucalyptus trees
The land of Galicia, poetic and tormented by the winds, rain and by man.
Land on the border of an ocean where the water is dark blue like the
deep dark night;
where the witches and the spirits of the forest take shelter among the
branches and the rocks.
Fall's light was warm that afternoon among the trees,
and I felt comforted by that welcoming land.
Then the wind brought with it the song of the ocean's waves;
now it
brings with it cries of
the Ocean Witches running away from the black tide.
