The Story of Alienor
Alienor is the descendent of the Duke of Aquitaine.
She married Louis VII at the age of 15. On her way to the Holy
Lands, she discovered the refinement of Constantinople then that of
Palestine. On her way back, she divorces King Louis and
marries Henry Plantagenet, the Duke of Normandy, who aspires for the
British Throne. He becomes Henry II, and they have 8 children.
Alenor's Court at Poitier is brilliant. She
encourages poets and writers. After 15 years, she divorces the King
and encourages her sons to rebel against him. The King imprisons her
in a convent till his death, 15 years later.
At 67, Alienor sees her son Richard become the
King of England, and he is entrusted with the power of a crusade to
the Holy Lands. At 72, Alienor retires to the Abby in Anjou. Five
years later, her son Richard dies, and his son Jean becomes the King
of England. At 80 she goes to Spain to organize the engagement of
the future Louis VIII and her Grand Daughter, Blanche of Castille.
In 1204, Alienor, one of the greatest personalities of the XII
centuries, passes away.
